The importance of a photogoniometer in the development of lighting fixtures
Nuova ASP has recently bought a photogoniometer in order to perform in-house photometric measurements for its lighting fixtures. For any project which includes lighting fixtures, the photometric diagram is required.
The photometric diagram includes the set of information relating to the light emitted in various directions, these info are usually collected in a file (photometric file) in IES or LDT format. The photometric diagram is usually expressed in a polar coordinate diagram.
The main features of the photometric measurements are:
• Luminous flux [lm]
• Light intensity [cd]
• Color temperature [K]
The photogoniometer is the tool through which photometric measurements are performed.
The photometric file created by using the photogoniometer is then used in lighting software to simulate the lighting of an environment.
The photometric file is then used in lighting programs to simulate the lighting of an environment or in optical programs.
Having a photogoniometer allows the company to design and optimize the best technical solutions by checking immediately the answers of the finished product. The use of a photogoniometer also allows to quickly answer to the new needs coming from the market and from the industry regulations which are in constant evolution.
